Summary: This is a wonderful book about a 10 year old boy named Bud who lives in Flint, Michigan during the Great Depression. His mother died and he lived in an orphanage and flees to find Herman E Calloway, the man he thinks is his father. He finds him and befriends his band. Calloway turns out to be Bud's grandfather and Bud seemed to have found himself in the right place with his grandfather and the band. This story could be used to talk about Great Depression, or about a young man's drive to never give up hope.
