Summary: This is a true story about Ruby Bridges, a six year old girl living in New Orleans during integration in the 1960's. Ruby Bridges tells us about the role she played in the integration of public schools during the height of racism and civil rights. She was the only black girl chosen to integrate William Frantz public school when she was in 1st grade. This is a moving story that young elementary aged children can relate to because of the feelings and anxieties described by Ruby. This book could be used in the classroom when discussing racism and civil rights.
